A referida cerimónia que decorreu no auditorio daquele estabelecimento de ensino, contou com a presença  de representantes das Embaixadas em Washington, dos países que falam a língua portuguesa, nomeadamente<st1:personname>:</st1:personname> Brasil, Angola, Cabo Verde, Moçambique entre outras representações de diversas esferas do meio académico de DC. A Embaixada de Cabo Verde em Washington esteve representada pela Diplomata <st1:personname>Isabel Oliveira</st1:personname>, que fez uma incursão pela “ Poesia Contemporânea no Feminino em Cabo Verde” na esfera da poetisa Vera Duarte. Também de mencionar a presença da Cabo-verdiana Dra. Dulcídia Benrós, da Granston High School East, em Cranston, RI, que abordou o tema<st1:personname>:</st1:personname> “A Diáspora Cabo-Verdiana nos Estados Unidos da América” --------------------------------------------------- Cape Verdean Poetry at George Washington University On <st1:date year="2012" day="2" month="11">November 2, 2012</st1:date>, the Portuguese Language and Lusophone Studies Program at <st1:place><st1:placename>George</st1:placename> <st1:placename>Washington</st1:placename> <st1:placetype>University</st1:placetype></st1:place> hosted an event celebrating Portuguese language. The presentations centered on the theme “Prose and Poetry in the Lusophone World”, Embassies representing Portuguese Speaking Countries - <st1:country-region><st1:place>Angola</st1:place></st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Mozambique</st1:place></st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region><st1:place>Cape Verde</st1:place></st1:country-region> and <st1:country-region><st1:place>Brazil</st1:place></st1:country-region> - participated in the celebration with poetry readings, lectures and performances. On behalf of the Embassy of Cape Verde, the diplomat Isabel Oliveira made a presentation on Contemporary poetry in <st1:country-region><st1:place>Cape Verde</st1:place></st1:country-region>, focusing on women contributions in particular the Cape-Verdean poet, Ms. Vera Duarte Also from Cape Verde, Ms. Dulcídia Benrós, a teacher at Granston High School East, in <st1:place><st1:city>Cranston</st1:city>, <st1:state>RI</st1:state></st1:place>, shared a lecture on the experiences of the Cape Verdean Diaspora in the <st1:country-region><st1:place>US</st1:place></st1:country-region>. </div>

<div class="feed-description">The theme of International Development Assistance effectiveness was at the center of a discussion held at the Kay Spiritual Center, American University, in Washington, D.C., where Ambassador Fatima Veiga participated as a discussant on April 23, 2012. The Kay Spiritual Center, American University and The Esquel Group Foundation sponsored the event. Mr. Stahis Panagides, former MCC Resident Country Director in Cape Verde, presided, focusing on examples drawn from hands-on experience in and outside the US, working with bilateral and international development-aid agencies, civil society, and the private sector. Ambassador Veiga expanded on the specific cases of Cape Verde’s partnerships for development, the importance of country ownership and country-led solutions.</div>

The Harwich Historical Society & the Cape Verdean Historical Trust partnered to promote this event, which took pace at the Harwich Public Library on May 5th, 2012, from 1:00-4:00pm. The discussion focused on the progress Cape Verde has made, from the colonial regime, through independence and up to today's economic developments, business investment opportunities and tourism industry.</div>

Conferences, performances, movie screenings and a public commemoration presided by Prime Minister Neves.  The Ministry for Communities is leading the efforts to mark this especial day for Cape Verdean communities around the globe. One of the highlights is the photo Exhibit by Ronald Barbosa on the life of former President Aristides Pereira. The exhibit had its debut in early 2012 in Washington D.C., through a collaboration of the Cape Verde Embassy to the US and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. 18 de Outubro é Dia Nacional da Cultura e das Comunidades No proximo dia 18 de Outubro, data que coincide com a do nascimento do poeta Eugénio Tavares, Cabo Verde comemora o Dia Nacional da Cultura e das Comunidades, com varias iniciativas tanto no pais como no exterior. Veja o programa de comemorações organizado pelo Governo, através do Ministério das Comunidades, Ministério da Cultura e Ministério das Relações Exteriores. Destaca-se a participação no programa de Ron Barboza, caboverdiano-americano de New Bedford, com uma exposiçao de fotografias de Cabo Verde e de suas gentes. A exposição foi inaugurada em Washington DC, no inicio de 2012, fruto de uma colaboração da Embaixada de Cabo Verde nos EUA e a Woodrow Wilson International Center for scholars. A comunidade caboverdiana em Portugal também marca presença no evento com o Grupo de Batuque Finka Pé. No dia 18 Outubro, às 11:30 haverá na Sala de Conferências do Palácio do Governo, uma Sessão Pública de comemoração do Dia da Cultura e das Comunidades presidida por Sua Excia o Primeiro-Ministro. Conferências, a projecção do filme "Finka Pé" - Contos de Mulheres que dançam pela Liberdade", de Raquel Castro e uma noite de Gala são ainda outras actividades enquadradas nessas comemorações. </div>

Cabo Verde ficou classificado no segundo lugar e nos 6 anos em que o relatório é publicado, manteve-se sempre na lista dos top 10 países em África com registo de boa governação.
